Job Position: Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, part-time, 2025-26 School Year (IL PEL REQUIRED)

SIGN ON BONUS: $2000

Position Description:

  • Provides direct services to students with special needs for the purpose of changing inappropriate behaviors and/or learning difficulties.

  • Provides ongoing consultation services to staff for modifications for all students in the regular classroom. This may include the following: curriculum modification, behavioral management skills, assistance in identifying behavioral problems, and/or discussion and feedback concerning student progress

  • Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved

  • Assists the classroom teachers in creating an environment that is conducive to learning an appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students

  • Assists the classroom teachers in developing reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, and maintains order in a fair and consistent manner

  • Prepares for students assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor

  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishes clear objectives for all learning and behavioral activities, and communicates these objectives to the student

  • Monitors progress of students on a regular basis

  • Works cooperatively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis and remediation of individual students with specialized needs as well as those in need of supplemental services

  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations

  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct

  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers as needed

  • Attends IEP conferences, parents meetings, Problem Solving/Intervention Team meetings, etc as appropriate

  • Selects learning content congruent with prescribed curriculum and IEP

  • Develops and completes instructional goals and objectives

  • Develops and implements appropriate Individual Education Plans (IEP) in accordance with state and federal statutes

Minimum Certification/License job requirements:

  • Illinois Professional Educators License with DHH Deaf and Hard of Hearing Endorsement
