The Academic Support Resource Teacher provides support to all students, including those with learning challenges, both in a resource room and classroom setting. The teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Diocese of Orlando. The teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Diocese of Orlando and the Office of Catholic Schools as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of Melbourne Central Catholic High School. The teacher cooperates with the staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches and acts in accordance with doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Understands and appropriately teaches the curriculum of the Diocese of Orlando.
  • Assesses student progress in accordance with Diocese of Orlando approved procedures.
  • Knows, teaches, and acts consistently in accordance with the mission, philosophy, objectives, and policies and procedures of Melbourne Central Catholic High School.
  • Serves as an Inclusion Specialist by providing teachers with support and resources to assist in the successful inclusion of all students in the classroom.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the "Peers as Partners in Learning Elective".
  • Provides individual and small group instruction to students in both the classroom and resource room settings.
  • Is familiar with different models of co-teaching.
  • Assists teachers with implementing accommodations.
  • Teaches and reinforces a learning strategies curriculum.
  • Teaches an Intensive Language Arts elective
  • Monitors and communicates student progress, teacher concerns, and strategies with the Academic Support team.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of executive function skills necessary for success at the high school and college levels.
  • Be organized and proficient in the daily use and integration of technology in the educational environment.
  • Stays abreast of current research and educational best practices by evidence of pursuing continual professional development.
  • Be a skilled communicator and problem solver with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, peers, administrators, and others.
  • Have the ability to assess levels of student achievement, individual student needs, analyze test results and deliver instruction to varied learners.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of core standards and a rigorous curriculum.
  • Be flexible in a fast-paced working environment and possess a strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement.
  • Maintains Florida state teaching certification.
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, colleagues, and school administration.
  • Participates in the Diocese of Orlando Diocesan Catechist Certification Program and in Diocesan and school-sponsored professional development programs.
  • Performs teaching duties as assigned by the principal or assistant principal.
  • Attends required faculty and staff meetings.
  • Cooperates with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings, activities, and projects.
  • Maintains accurate student attendance and academic records.
  • Maintains a safe, orderly, and secure learning and working environment.
  • Participates in the semi-annual performance review based upon the implementation of the general responsibilities of a professional educator at Melbourne Central Catholic High School.
  • Maintains confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters.
  • Supervises and evaluates students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Practicing Catholic preferred.
  • Applicants should hold a BA or BS in Special Education (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid Florida teacher certification, with dual certification in a core subject area and Exceptional Student Education at the secondary level with an ESOL endorsement preferred.
  • Compliance with Diocesan FBI fingerprint clearance and compliance with Safe Environment training and test requirements.
  • Ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English language.

Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift at least 25 pounds. Physical demands include balancing, carrying, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, sitting, standing, reaching, stooping, talking, and walking. Also includes the ability to see items close.
