Job Description

Position Introduction:

The Department of Education at Vassar College is inviting applications for a one-year adjunct appointment to begin in Fall 2025, to teach two courses and assist with fieldwork and student teaching placements in local schools. Successful candidates should have demonstrated experience in teaching at the K-12 level.

Job Description:

The Teacher Education Certification Supervisor assists in coordinating the undergraduate teacher education preparation and licensure program. This includes organizing, supporting and supervising teacher certification fieldwork, leading its related seminar, and working closely with department faculty to coordinate student teaching placements. Responsibilities also entail developing and managing relationships with local educators and administrators. Applicants should be knowledgeable about the requirements of the NYS state-accredited educator licensure programs and have knowledge of local schools. This position will average approximately 10 hours per week during the academic year.

Essential Functions

•   Interface with local districts to establish relationships between college and schools.

•   Conduct reflection class sessions for observational fieldwork practicums during both Fall and Spring semesters.

•   Liaise with the Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) office around fieldwork placements and transportation.

•   Coordinate Fall student teaching placements which includes: 1) working with faculty on candidate interviews; 2) contacting cooperating teachers and districts in the spring to arrange placements for the fall; 3) preparing the necessary paperwork; 4) scheduling the required violence prevention workshops related to NYS certification; and 5) assisting with student teaching orientation.

•   Work with faculty on and attend the weekly student teaching seminar in the Fall.

•   Participate in meetings with teachers, supervisors and students.

•   Assist in tracking student teacher candidates at risk; problem solve with student teachers and/or mentor teacher supervisors; create and implement improvement plans when needed.

•   Work with Administrative Assistant to ensure that all candidates keep documentation necessary for state licensure.

•   Liaise with NYS Department of Education regarding the program when necessary.

•   Support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful,

inclusive and welcoming work environment.

Supervision:

The Teacher Education Certification Supervisor is supervised by the Chair of the Education Department.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

Master's degree plus appropriate K-12 teaching and/or educational administrative experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience.

Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with college students.

Skills

•   Ability to balance and accomplish both day-to-day tasks and ongoing, longer-term projects and responsibilities.

•   Strong written and verbal communication skills.

•   Excellent attention to detail.

•   Good listening and interpersonal skills.

•   Fluency with computer applications including Drive, databases, word processing, and presentation software.
