SHIFT: Days - (8:00 to 3:30) 35 hours/wk. - 36 wks./yr.

Classification: Dependent on education
  • - 60 credits in education or related field - $26.29/hour
  • - 60 credits in any field + Teacher Assistant Training Program - $22.11/hour
  • - Teacher Assistant Training Program + Parapro Assessment - $19.89/hour

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Special Education Teacher Assistant will assist the classroom teacher in the supervision of students and perform other duties as prescribed by the classroom teacher and/or principal.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
  1. Prepare, distribute and display materials as directed by the teacher.
  2. Meet the bus and assists children into the classroom.
  3. At the direction of the teacher, the assistant will assist in maintaining order during instruction period.
  4. Changing of diapers and assist with toileting needs as necessary.
  5. Ability to lift student and supervise eating
  6. Escort children to and from various rooms as necessary and assist in those activities where necessary.
  7. Maintain records as required by the teacher.
  8. Assist at games, walks, exercises, etc.
  9. Perform other activities as directed by the classroom teacher.
  10. Responds to student needs as necessary as directed by the teacher.
  11. Other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ability to make accurate tabulations and computations; the ability to readily understand and carry out directions, both oral and written; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form; the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; the ability to develop an effective working relationship with staff, students, parents and the community; creative thinking, problem solving skills and the ability to reinforce information one on one and to small groups; must have an understanding of child development, specifically in the area of special services and the ability to perform duties with an awareness of school department requirements and policies.

EDUCATION:

Such as may be gained through graduation from a senior high school or equivalent (GED). Class 15-A minimum of two years college course work (60 credits) required with an emphasis in the field of special services, early childhood, elementary education or an Associates Degree in a program specifically in the area of teacher assistant preferred. Class 14-60 credits in any field plus the Teacher Assistant Training Program. 12B - Teacher Assistant Training Program + Parapro Assessment

One year related experience preferred.
