WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Digital and Social Media Specialist will perform moderately complex informational, communication and marketing work for the Marketing & Public Outreach Division. You will be involved in the planning, development, and implementation of digital and social media strategies for the Texas Department of Agriculture's (TDA) marketing programs including GO TEXAN, Uncork Texas Wines, Texas Gulf Seafood and general agriculture promotion and education. You will work under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Draft the conception, planning, production, scheduling, and implementation of social media campaigns for the following handles: GO TEXAN, Uncork Texas Wines & Texas Gulf Seafood.

Responsible for developing and managing all external and internal digital communications across the division in support of the agency by managing and updating GO TEXAN, Marketing, and Trade & Business Development Division websites, including creation of new pages.

Provide technical support and assist with managing assigned projects from initial concept until completion, to include monitoring, tracking project status, documenting the results, resolving technical problems, identifying resources, and recommending improvements, as needed.

Design and distribute multiple internal and external newsletters, email marketing campaigns and other email communications that support GO TEXAN, Uncork Texas Wine news and Texas Gulf Seafood brand awareness, fundraising and events, measuring effectiveness and making recommendations to improve impact.

Design graphics to support digital communications, as well as online awareness, marketing and fundraising social media campaigns.

Track, gather and analyze website analytics, social media engagement, social media campaigns, and other online data to assess GO TEXAN and Uncork Texas Wine's digital presence across the Internet and social media outlets, ensuring accuracy of information and making recommendations to improve impact.

Follow all TDA policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

Bachelor's degree (One year work experience related to the primary duties may substitute for one year of college).

One (1) year experience in digital marketing, social media management, content creation or related.

Master's degree in Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related may substitute for required work experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related.

Experience creating and implementing original marketing events, ideas, plans, and/or promotions.

Experience and/or knowledge of InDesign, Canva or Figma.

Work experience within an agriculture, marketing, or sales environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of agency functions, policies, and procedures; news and communication media; various social media platforms; editing and preparing informational material; design principles; publishing and broadcast industries;

marketing principles and economic development; marketing or promotion of Texas products, services, and communities; various division and TDA programs; and of TDA policies and procedures and all related laws and regulations.

Skill in editorial and design practices; providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers; and in the use of a computer and applicable software.

Ability to research and prepare information, to design communication plans and materials related to the goals and priorities of the agency, to compose usable content for websites and social media, to prepare copy and scripts, to design broad communications plans and materials, communicate effectively, and exercise sound judgment and discretion.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position will work in a normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May involve travel (up to 15% ), occasionally overnight.

TELEWORK & WORK HOURS

The agency does not offer telework. TDA employees are required to be physically present for work.

The agency's core business hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. TDA also provides limited customer service between 6:00-8:00 a.m. and 5:00-6:00 p.m.
