Trusts & Estates - Tax Specialist SENIOR PARALEGAL OR ATTORNEY Location: West Loop/Riverside area of downtown Chicago
Salary Range: $90,000 - $265,000 depending upon level of experience, education, and licensure
Billable Hours: 1200 annually
LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking a tax professional with 5+ years of estate and gift tax return preparation experience to join its client s growing and highly collaborative Trusts & Estates Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with the preparation of complex estate and gift tax returns, as well as aspects of probate estate and trust administration, including trust accountings. This is not an entry-level position. Please apply if you meet the essential minimum qualifications outlined below.
This role requires working onsite for a minimum of 3 days per week and allows for 2 days work-from-home flexibility upon successful completion of onboarding.

Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor s Degree or Paralegal Certificate
- 5+ years of relevant and recent trust and estates experience within a US law firm, financial institution, family office, or accounting firm setting
- 5+ years of experience preparing Estate Tax Returns (IRS Form 706), Gift Tax Returns (Form 709), and Form 1041 Income Tax Returns
- Open to CPAs / Masters in Tax / JD / LLM / Licensed Attorneys / Senior Paralegals
Primary Responsibilities: - Provide tax preparation and reporting services to affluent clients
- Prepare estate tax returns (IRS Form 706 and state estate tax returns), Final Form 1040, and Form 1041 fiduciary income tax returns
- Review and prepare fiduciary accounting for trusts and estates
- Review estate planning documents
- Assist with administration of estates and trusts
- Maintain active communication with clients
- Interact with trust administrators, executors, clients, attorneys, financial advisors, and colleagues on matters related to estate tax returns and federal and state fiduciary income taxes
Preferred Experience: - Knowledge and experience with preparation of Final 1040 for decedents
- Proficient in reading and interpreting trust documents
- CPA, MST, LLM, or JD a plus but not required
- Experience with GO RS tax software and CCH ProSystem Axcess or related software
- Experience with tax reporting for foundations a plus but not required (e.g., IRS Form 5227, Forms 990, 990-PF, and 990-T)
Pay Details: $90,000.00 to $265,000.00 per year
