Role Description:

MRC is seeking a Tax Manager to join its finance & accounting team. This role will report to the VP, Controller and partner closely with other finance team members as well as other cross-functional leaders to manage day-to-day compliance work, drive the company's tax-related workstreams, and provide guidance regarding the tax implications and risks/opportunities of various key business decisions. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, highly adaptable, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations
  • Preparation and/or oversight of income tax compliance filings for Partnership, C-corporations and LLC production entities (Form 1065, Form 5471, Form 8858 and 8865, California Forms 568)
  • Maintain tax calendar for various filings, compliance matters, and other tax-related workstreams
  • Serve as key point of contact for external tax advisors
  • Assist external tax advisors with preparation of the Federal tax compliance model used for estimated taxable income allocations for extensions (partnership), including analysis of 704(b).
  • In-depth knowledge of IRC Section 754 and partnership allocation based on IRC Section 734(b) and 743(b).
  • Create multi-year tax forecast model based on company operating plan
  • Forecast cash tax distributions to partners (and corresponding company obligations)
  • Ability to sensitize/adjust forecast based on different operating scenarios
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to evaluate the income tax implications of certain business and/or partner decisions, including unit sales/divestitures, M&A, financing, and investment structuring, etc., and research of the relevant tax laws for such transactions
  • Address inquiries from various tax authorities, including requests for information and/or documentation and responses to tax-related issues
  • Assist with other ad hoc projects and analysis as assigned

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related business discipline required, Master's degree in Taxation preferred
  • Minimum of six (6) years of previous relevant tax compliance experience, preferably within the media and entertainment industry
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred
  • Excellent grasp of tax technical knowledge and concepts, particularly regarding partnerships, and ability to stay up-to-date on current developments in tax laws and regulations
  • Highly organized with the ability to maintain a large volume of information
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and project management skills
