Position: Tax Manager
Position Summary
As the Tax Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the company's tax compliance, planning, and strategy. You'll work closely with our CFO, external tax advisors, and cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with the company's financial goals. A strong understanding of real estate taxation and California state/local tax codes is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee all tax compliance matters, including federal, state, and local filings.
Coordinate with external CPAs for preparation and review of entity tax returns (partnerships, LLCs, S-Corps).
Handle property-level tax issues including real estate taxes, 1031 exchanges, and transfer tax implications.
Conduct tax research and stay up to date on changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the real estate industry.
Identify and implement tax planning opportunities to minimize tax liabilities.
Support audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
Provide tax guidance on new acquisitions, dispositions, and restructuring projects.
Maintain accurate records of all tax-related transactions and schedules.
Assist in financial reporting for tax provision and deferred tax calculations.
Educate internal stakeholders on tax implications of business decisions.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
Minimum 5-7 years of progressive tax experience, preferably within the real estate industry or public accounting with real estate clients.
Strong knowledge of partnership taxation, real estate-specific tax matters, and California tax laws.
Experience with 1031 exchanges, entity structuring, and real estate transactions.
Proficiency with tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx) and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
