Summary:

Our client in the Oil & Gas industry is looking for a Tax Accountant to support the Accounting team aiding in the preparation of both federal and state tax filings. This includes preparing corporate income tax returns, gathering apportionment data for state income tax returns, and managing tax accounting provisions. This position is crucial during the quarter-end and year-end tax reporting processes. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Accounting, and collaborating closely with external consultants, the Tax Accountant ensures compliance with tax regulations and maintains precise financial records. A keen eye for detail, strong analytical abilities, and the capacity to handle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment are essential for success in this role.


Duties:

  • Support the preparation of federal corporate income tax returns, ensuring adherence to regulations and maintaining accuracy.
  • Aid in the preparation of state income tax and franchise tax returns by collecting and analyzing apportionment data.
  • Contribute to the development of quarterly and annual tax provisions, including calculations for deferred taxes and corresponding journal entries.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of non-income taxes, such as property tax and sales/GRT returns (if applicable), including managing the process for obtaining and renewing sales tax exemption certificates for both counterparties and our organization.
  • Oversee property tax records to guarantee accurate assessments and timely payment processing in line with local regulations.
  • Compile and maintain all necessary documentation to support tax filings.
  • Help with 1099 reporting to ensure prompt and precise submission.
  • Enhance the quarter-end and year-end tax accounting reporting processes.
  • Reconcile tax accounts and contribute to the maintenance of tax-related entries in the general ledger.
  • Investigate federal, state, and local tax regulations to confirm ongoing compliance.
  • Assist in addressing tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Collaborate with external consultants on complex tax issues and audits as required.
  • Work together with other group entities to supply tax-related information for accurate reporting and compliance.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of direct experience in corporate tax, public accounting, or a similar tax-focused role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local tax statutes and regulations.
  • Proven capacity to cooperate effectively with both internal teams and external advisors.
  • Knowledgeable in various tax reporting forms.
  • Excellent analytical skills for interpreting financial data and tax laws.
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in tax submissions and reports.
  • Strong organizational abilities for managing tax records, documentation, and supporting workpapers.
  • Proactive in overseeing tax compliance and ensuring timely submission of tax returns.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with NetSuite is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • CPA or Master's degree in Taxation (preferred but not required)
