Job Description Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Technician to join our team on-site in Huntsville, Alabama. The Systems Technician will support and maintain a statewide network infrastructure, specializing in the configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of firewalls, routers, and switches. This role involves implementing client-requested firewall changes, managing a diverse network environment with equipment from vendors and assisting in the design and deployment of custom LAN/WAN solutions. The technician also coordinates with vendors for on-site installations, resolves connectivity and security issues, and provides Tier 2 support for Helpdesk tickets. Responsibilities of the Systems Technician: Delivers technical support for a statewide network infrastructure, including the setup, configuration, and maintenance of firewalls, routers, and switches.
Executes client-driven firewall modifications, such as configuring NAT, access control lists (ACLs), remote VPN access, AAA protocols, and site-to-site VPN tunnels.
Contributes to the administration of a diverse network environment featuring equipment from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, and others.
Participates in the planning, testing, and deployment of tailored networking solutions for client Internet, LAN, and WAN needs.
Collaborates with internal teams and external vendors to coordinate network deployments; installs telecommunications and networking hardware at customer locations.
Diagnoses and resolves issues related to LAN/WAN connectivity and firewall security; supports hardware patching during security reviews and handles Tier 2 Helpdesk tickets on a daily basis. Qualifications of the Systems Technician: 1+ years of experience
Proven understanding of LAN/WAN infrastructure and firewall architecture, including the ability to configure, manage, and troubleshoot network systems.
Strong technical foundation with the initiative to independently learn and keep pace with evolving networking technologies and industry developments.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation abilities, with a focus on delivering quality customer support.
Certifications from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, or Palo Alto are preferred but not mandatory. Recognized credentials like Network+, Security+, CCNA, CCNP, and JNCIS are considered advantageous.
