Qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Ability to troubleshoot & install low voltage systems and audio/video systems; understanding of security systems (IP Camera systems and door access).

Reports To: Director of Technology

Scope of Responsibilities

The Systems Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and support of various audio/visual and security systems, including sound and projector systems, door access control, security cameras, intercom systems, and other low-voltage systems. This position will provide staff training on the use of district-wide security and technology software.

Performance Responsibilities
  1. Understands and applies industry standards for low-voltage wiring, door access systems, and related technologies
  2. Installs maintains, and troubleshoots low-voltage systems & cabling, including video surveillance, intercoms, access control boards, card-swipe equipment, electric strikes, electronic door handles, and alarm devices
  3. Ensures system consistency and uniformity across multiple locations
  4. Troubleshoots and resolves issues with networking, client/server computers, and servers using best practices
  5. Develops and maintains schedules for replacing district security technology assets
  6. Coordinates projects with vendors and manages inventory of low-voltage cabling, parts, and accessories
  7. Develops and implements security policies and procedures, training staff and end users on system usage
  8. Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the Board of Education, Principal, Administrative Staff, Superintendent, and School-Based Decision-Making Council
  9. Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.
  10. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Technology or Superintendent of Schools.
Required Competencies and Skills:
  1. Must be able to work independently on assigned tasks. Should maintain excellent communication skills. Learn to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Maintain composure in stressful situations. Work cooperatively with the team to handle difficult situations and find solutions to various issues.
  1. Help provide support for all district locations. Including WAN/LAN links and networking equipment, IP based phone system, phones, cameras, and end-user devices. End-user devices include desktops, laptops, and tablets that run on Windows, OSX, iOS, or Chrome OS. Additionally, help support business, productivity, and instructional programs/apps/extensions.
  1. Keep up with current and upcoming technologies, tools, and products
  1. Assist technology counterparts in the review of new technologies to prepare cost-effective recommendations for replacement and upgrades of all technologies.
  1. This person should also have an understanding of interactive classroom technologies and assist with the troubleshooting of equipment for audio and video-related issues.
  1. This person must be willing and eager to teach and train users on the use of technology in the classroom. Must be able & eager to facilitate instruction in the classroom by providing guidance to teaching staff and administrators. This person should recognize technology as a means for effectively teaching classroom content.
  1. This person must work to maintain current documentation of any and all projects in a shared environment accessible and editable by team members in a collaborative space.
  1. This person should be prepared to utilize our work order system, Incident IQ. The work order system is to be utilized to the extent that it is the single most comprehensive list of work to be done, by request submitted on behalf of district staff. Although, it is not to be considered as the only source of responsibility. The work order system must be updated promptly to ensure all team members have the current status of projects at any given time.
  1. This person must have a continued willingness to learn & improve their professional and personal skills. Always strive to make decisions and suggestions in the best interest of the district as a whole.
  1. Provide personal transportation to and from all district facilities as well as willingness to transport equipment when necessary.

Understanding or willingness to learn Extreme Wi-Fi, controller & AP installation, security, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Familiarity with remote control of servers, workstations, and networks.

Scripting

Understanding or willingness to learn scripting languages including but not limited to Powershell, Batch files, & logon/startup files to accomplish assigned tasks.

Telephone, & low-voltage systems

Understanding or willingness to learn the installation & troubleshooting of VOIP IP systems & various telephone instruments from classroom to school console.

Understanding or willingness to learn analog, PRI, and SIP lines and channels.

Troubleshooting of telephone system, instruments, circuits

User education of telephone capabilities

Understanding or willingness to learn & follow industry best practices following BICSI information and communications technology (ICT), Telecommunication Industry Association (TIA), Panduit Certification Plus System Warranty, & BGISD Technology Low-Voltage standards.

Installation & Troubleshooting of various low-voltage wiring infrastructures including but not limited to Category 5, 5e, 6, & 6a

Installation & Troubleshooting of various fiber optic cabling infrastructures including but not limited to Multimode & Single mode fiber optic cabling.

Installation & Troubleshooting of Analog & IP-based Intercom systems from various manufacturers including but not limited to Algo, Rauland, Valcom, Simplex, Grandstream & Singlewire.
