Software Engineer II
Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado
Caribou Thunder LLC Step into the forefront of national defense innovation.
At Caribou Thunder, we don't just write code-we engineer the digital backbone of America's most advanced defense capabilities. As a Software Engineer II, you will join an elite team at Schriever Space Force Base, where real-world mission impact meets cutting-edge software development. This is more than just a job; it's your opportunity to contribute to the critical mission of protecting the nation through next-generation Modeling and Simulation (M&S) solutions.
You will design, develop, and test complex applications that simulate the performance and capabilities of Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems. These systems play a vital role in global surveillance, missile warning, and strategic deterrence. Your work will directly influence concept evaluation, developmental engineering, test and verification, and operational assessments that keep our forces prepared for any scenario.
This role thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment where your software will go from concept to mission readiness with speed and precision. You'll engage directly with senior engineers, government partners, and stakeholders across the defense community. What You'll Do:
• Lead design, development, integration, and documentation efforts using C and/or Java on Linux platforms.
• Develop modeling and simulation capabilities of next-gen OPIR assets.
• Contribute across the full software development lifecycle-from architecture to deployment.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams under Agile methodologies to meet mission-critical timelines. What You Bring:
• Bachelor's degree in STEM (or Master's) and 0-2 years of experience.
• Proficiency in C, C , or Java object-oriented development.
• Solid understanding of modern software development life cycles.
• Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support program needs.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance (we will guide you through this process). Preferred Experience:
• Mastery of C or Java in real-world environments.
• Familiarity with Atlassian tools, Scrum, Kanban, and Agile methodologies.
• Experience with defense modeling, missile defense systems, infrared space surveillance, or simulation technologies.
• An active in-scope DoD Secret clearance is a plus but not required to apply. Not Cleared Yet? This Could Be Your Gateway.
If you're an uncleared software professional with the drive to transition into the defense sector, this role can be your entry point. Caribou Thunder has a track record of helping top talent gain their clearance and grow into long-term careers supporting critical defense programs. Ready to engineer the future of defense?
