ABOUT MTC The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is the transportation planning, financing, and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA) Information Technology Manager, the Systems Administrator will work within the BATA IT team to provide server and desktop administration, configuration, and support. The Systems Administrator will participate in design, configuration, support, and monitoring in a Microsoft Server and Azure environment.
Systems Administrator responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Managing the on-prem and cloud server infrastructure, cloud platforms, and storage
- Administering and maintaining server hardware, operating systems, and technology platforms
- Migrating services from on-prem to Azure
- Installing, configuring, and managing system software, including operating system, middleware, and utilities
- Managing and ensuring availability of SMTP mail flow for alerting
- Monitoring system performance, capacity, availability, and security
- Compare, evaluate, and implement new technologies, and integrate systems into the existing environment
- Ensuring cost efficiency of cloud systems and platforms
- Responding promptly to system alerts and incidents
- Managing backup and recovery operations & services
- Troubleshooting technical issues as they arise
- Creating and maintaining systems infrastructure documentation
- Facilitate vendor relationships
- Perform other job-related tasks and duties as needed or assigned by the Section
QUALIFICATIONSKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES - Experience administering Microsoft Azure
- Ability to design, configure, and support Windows Active Directory in a geographically distributed WAN environment
- Experience providing system support in a highly available production environment
- Fundamental understanding of networking, including routing, switching, and firewalls
- Fundamental understanding of common protocols (such as, but not limited to, LDAP, SMTP, TCP/IP, RADIUS, DNS, DHCP, SAML, and SSL/TLS)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, evidenced by a history of enhancing system performance and resolving complex technical issues
- Knowledge of and experience implementing standard IT security practices
- Experience with LAN hardware including patch panels, switches, Fiber Optics, Ethernet wiring
- Experience with Nutanix a plus
- Must have a valid CA driver's license and ability to drive
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAn appropriate combination of education and experience that has provided the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is:
Education: A Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field. A Masters degree is desirable. Applicants with a degree issued from an institution outside the United States must have their transcripts evaluated by an academic accrediting service and provide proof of equivalency along with the application.
Experience: Five years of increasingly complex and responsible work experience performing computer and network needs assessment; and installing, maintaining and evaluating computer equipment, software applications and local area networks, including the equivalent of two years as an Information Systems Specialist II in MTC.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience: - 4 years of experience working in a systems administration capacity
- Proven experience in systems administration across hybrid cloud environments
- Experience with active directory
- Experience with hybrid Identity environments (AD/Entra or AD/Okta)
- Experience performing infrastructure platform migrations and implementation of Microsoft products
- Experience with Microsoft PowerShell
- Experience with enterprise software monitoring tools (Solarwinds, Splunk, etc.)
- Experience administering nix a plus
License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternate transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.

- Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); employee contributes a portion of gross salary on a pre-tax basis.
- MTC is subject to California Pension Reform and as of January 1, 2013 will offer two pension plans. The plan employee will receive will be based on the individual's historical pension plan membership. HR will discuss this directly with all final candidates.
