POSITION SUMMARY: The Systems Administrator plays a key role in supporting the University and Seminary's core infrastructure. This position contributes to the reliability, performance, and security of systems across a wide range of technologies, including on-premises and cloud-based services. Responsibilities span account lifecycle management, server and virtualization platforms, backups, and other foundational IT services. The Systems Administrator works closely with senior engineers and team members to maintain operations, respond to evolving needs, and grow technical expertise in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the infrastructure team to support the physical and virtual IT systems that serve Moravian University and Seminary campuses, including more than 80 networked buildings.
  • Assist in the configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of systems in data centers and network closets, including servers, storage, power, cooling, and related infrastructure.
  • Support the administration and monitoring of network and infrastructure services such as switching, wireless, VoIP, access control, and cloud-based systems.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and basic diagnostics for infrastructure components, escalating complex issues to engineers or vendors as appropriate.
  • Help maintain, update, and test backup and disaster recovery systems under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Support tasks related to account and identity lifecycle management, including access provisioning and directory service updates.
  • Assist with deployment and maintenance tasks related to wireless access points, cabling, desk phones, emergency phones, printing, and other endpoint infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the documentation of infrastructure systems, including network diagrams, inventories, cabling maps, and internal knowledge base articles.
  • Work with vendors and service providers as needed to coordinate support or maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in cross-training and ongoing learning to develop familiarity with a wide range of infrastructure systems and tools.
  • Maintain accurate records of technical support activities, configurations, and resolved issues.
  • Support institutional safety and security systems in partnership with Campus Police, including cameras and networked safety equipment.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned to support IT operations.
  • May occasionally be required to work outside of regular business hours (evenings, early mornings, weekends) for maintenance or emergency support.
  • May need to travel to satellite campus locations or operate a university vehicle.
  • This position is designated as Level 1 - Essential Personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; OR equivalent hands-on experience supporting IT systems in a business or academic setting.
  • Foundational knowledge of system and network administration concepts, including operating systems, storage, backup, and virtualization.
  • Familiarity with common IT infrastructure components such as Windows Server, MacOS, Active Directory, networking equipment, and cloud-based services (e.g., Microsoft 365).
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, follow documentation, and escalate appropriately when needed.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively on a team and adapt to changing priorities.
Preferred:
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA, Cisco, Aruba, or Microsoft.
  • Exposure to IP networking, routing/switching concepts, or wireless technologies.
  • Experience with basic scripting or automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
  • Familiarity with system monitoring tools, backup solutions, or virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Interest in developing skills in areas such as VoIP, disaster recovery, infrastructure automation, or security.
