The within the GBI is currently looking to fill a vacant position and to create an applicant pool for the position of Systems Administrator 1 (ITP040).
This position will be located at one of the GBI Regional Crime Labs and/or HQ Crime Lab.

Job Duties
Job Summary:
Under supervisions, installs, configures, and supports a local area network, wide area network, internet system, computers, desktops and/or mobile devices. Performs necessary maintenance to support network availability. This is the entry/training level of the Systems Administration job series. Incumbents in this job may require additional training or experience to gain full proficiency in some or all of the job responsibilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will perform entry-level work in the areas of server administration, server development, desktop and systems support to the Division of Forensic Sciences (DOFS). Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Monitors and maintains server availability and performance.
  • Assists with server backups.
  • Monitors and maintain server patching and security.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves server issues for the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Tests, installs, and implements new versions of the LIMS and related software.
  • Participates in meetings with external vendors about current and future technologies.
  • Provides queries and/or reports for staff and others as needed.
  • Assists website clients with Evidence Submission and Reporting websites.
  • Performs user account activations and deactivations.
  • Provides various helpdesk and DOFS systems support to DOFS staff and external customers and resolves related issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Stand, climb, walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel.
  • Sit for extended periods.
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate a keyboard and other computer peripherals.
  • Lift/move boxes, supplies and equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires the incumbent to work in an office setting which includes shared office space with other employees.
NOTE: This position may require some travel and operating a state vehicle. A valid Georgia driver's license is required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of related experience.
Related experience must be in the systems administration field as described in the job duties section.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate one or more of the following:
  • Associate's degree or higher in a related IT field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, or Network Administration).
  • Three (3) or more years of hands-on experience in system administration, desktop support, or server maintenance in a professional environment.
  • Practical experience supporting Microsoft environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server, or endpoint patching tools.
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications, such as Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or other mission-critical platforms.
  • Experience supporting IT systems in a State of Georgia agency
  • CompTIA certifications (e.g., A+, Network+, Security+, or Server+)
  • Demonstrated experience with software patching, system monitoring, and backup utilities in a Windows-based environment.
