Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Life Safety Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 6-12 years of experience in designing and implementing life safety systems, with expertise in fire safety, HVAC systems, gas monitoring, and fire suppression. This role involves collaborating with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) teams and ensuring compliance with permitting authorities (AHJs). The right candidate will have a blend of technical design skills, equipment specification experience, and PLC programming knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain fire safety systems, including alarms, detection systems, and suppression systems.
- Develop and oversee HVAC designs and integrations to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
- Design and maintain gas monitoring systems to detect and mitigate risks in industrial environments.
- Specify, procure, and review safety system components to ensure alignment with project specifications and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with EHS teams to integrate safety systems into overall project designs and operations.
- Work closely with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to obtain necessary permits and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Utilize design software such as AutoCAD to create detailed layouts, schematics, and system diagrams.
- Specify instrumentation and equipment for safety systems, ensuring reliability and efficiency.
- Program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to integrate safety systems with control architectures.
- Support installation, commissioning, and testing of safety systems, ensuring proper functionality and adherence to project requirements.
- Conduct system audits and provide troubleshooting support for operational systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or equivalent experience.
- 6-12 years of experience in life safety systems engineering.
- Strong understanding of fire safety systems, HVAC systems, and gas monitoring technologies.
- Familiarity with fire suppression systems and related safety standards.
- Experience collaborating with EHS teams on safety-related projects.
- Knowledge of permitting processes and working with AHJs.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD) for creating system layouts and diagrams.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to specify instrumentation and equipment effectively.
- Basic to advanced experience with PLC programming and integration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with safety audits, commissioning, and troubleshooting safety systems.
- Knowledge of relevant safety and building codes, such as NFPA and ASHRAE standards.
- Experience in industrial or large-scale commercial projects.
