This position supports our Defense Health Agency project, aiding the Joint Healthcare Modernization efforts. This position will oversee and guide service desk and system monitoring solutions that enable the Joint Operational Medicine Information Systems (JOMIS) to better support Military Services and end users through modernized healthcare solutions.
We are seeking a highly skilled part-time
System Administrator/ Support Specialist to join our team for approximately 6 months. In this remote position, you will be responsible for overseeing critical monitoring services for key JOMIS products, including the Health Care Delivery Platform (HCD), Military Health System GENESIS Theater (MHSG-T), Theater Blood (TBLD), and MedCOP, OMDS systems. Your expertise will directly contribute to the overall effectiveness of the military healthcare modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities: - Oversee and guide service desk and system monitoring solutions to ensure effective support of JOMIS products.
- Administer and monitor key platforms, including HCD Platform, MHSG-T, TBLD, MedCOP, and OMDS.
- Design and implement monitoring solutions for large-scale, distributed, multi-application environments.
- Set up and tune alerts to reduce noise and highlight critical system issues.
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to define key metrics and logs for monitoring.
- Monitor system performance across both Windows and Linux environments, ensuring systems are running optimally.
- Utilize AWS services to manage and monitor system and application performance.
- Use Splunk for log ingestion, query creation, alerting, and dashboard development.
- Integrate monitoring tools with incident management solutions like PagerDuty, Opsgenie, and ServiceNow.
- Apply SRE/DevOps principles to improve observability and incident response processes.
- Write and maintain scripts in Python, PowerShell, and Bash for automation and integration.
- Support security hardening, patching, and user management across multiple environments.
- Maintain a strong focus on application performance monitoring (APM) principles and tooling.

Qualifications: Position requires US Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain DHS CBP clearance (Active clearance preferred) - Proficiency in AWS Services and cloud-based monitoring solutions.
- Hands-on experience with Splunk, including log ingestion, search queries (SPL), alerting, and dashboard creation.
- Strong expertise in Windows Server administration, focusing on services, performance counters, and event logs.
- Experience with Linux system administration, including log management, system tuning, and CLI tools.
- Solid understanding of general system administration tasks, including patching, security hardening, and user management.
- Proven experience designing and implementing system monitoring in large, distributed environments.
- Knowledge of application performance monitoring (APM) concepts and tools.
- Familiarity with SRE/DevOps practices, observability, and incident response.
- Strong scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, and Bash for automation and integration.
- Experience integrating monitoring with incident management tools (e.g., PagerDuty, Opsgenie, ServiceNow).
- A deep understanding of networking concepts and their relationship to system/application monitoring.
