Job Title: System Administrator
Location: Denver, CO (Remote)

Preference: ( Candidate Must reside in Colorado)
Customer: State of CO- Office of Information Technology (OIT)
Duration: 6 Month

Job Summary:

The System Administrator will play a crucial role in supporting security vulnerabilities, patching, and application updates within a large enterprise environment. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in Windows Server, Linux, cloud environments, and security compliance. This role requires after-hours support for patching, security updates, and urgent security incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Security Vulnerabilities Patching & Application Updates (80%)
  • Assist in patching, updating, and deploying security fixes.
  • Monitor and follow up on assigned incidents, problems, and change requests.
  • Provide technical support for Windows Server and Linux-based systems.
  • Support physical and virtual server environments.
  • Collaborate with Network, Application, Database, and Server teams to resolve issues.
  • Deploy new or rebuilt computers and technology equipment following OIT security policies.
  • Support and troubleshoot hardware and software issues in person, over the phone, or remotely.
  • Respond to urgent security incidents both during and outside of business hours.
2. IT & Customer Service Management (10%)
  • Follow OIT Change Management (RFC) process.
  • Track hardware and software assets using established tools.
  • Ensure systems are patched and updated per OIT policies.
  • Recommend upgrades and security vulnerability resolutions to compliance teams.
  • Assess remote hardware updates and determine if onsite visits are required.
3. Organizational & Project Commitment (5%)
  • Participate in team meetings and project implementation.
  • Attend OIT-provided training and pursue professional development.
  • Share new knowledge with the team through training sessions.
  • Research and troubleshoot legacy software compatibility issues.
4. Other Duties (5%)
  • Support decommissioning of outdated servers and infrastructure.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Degree/Diploma in Information Systems or Information Technology.
  • Experience: 3-5 years as an IT professional, including:
    • At least 3 years as a System Administrator in Windows or Linux environments.
    • Experience with IT controls, cybersecurity (NIST/CIS), HIPAA, PCI, or security compliance.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Microsoft, Cisco, Meraki, Palo Alto NGFW, Unix/Linux, VMWare.
    • Scripting experience in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
    • Strong knowledge of DNS, TCP/IP, and system hardening via Group Policy.
    • Experience with system administration and monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Puppet, syslog).
  • Certifications: Preferred: MCSE, ITIL, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISA, CISM, GIAC.
  • Cloud Experience: Hands-on experience with at least one cloud environment (AWS preferred, Azure, or GCP).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in large enterprise environments (100+ servers).
  • Familiarity with Tanium, Crowdstrike, Tenable, or similar tools.
  • Google Apps administration in a professional environment.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support.
