Senior Vice President, Human Resources & General Counsel

We are an established, successful & growing company in the reproductive healthcare space in

the Greater San Gabriel Valley. We look to hire for this confidential search an SVP Human

Resources & General Counsel, reporting to the Company President.

Qualifications: Minimum: Juris Doctorate from an accredited Law school required. Preferred additional undergraduate degree in human resources management, hospitality management, organizational psychology, psychology, social science, sociology, communications or related field. Applicable additional Human Resources certifications (e.g., SHRM, JEDI, DE&I) preferred. A minimum of 10 years of HR experience, with at least 5 years of executive or senior leadership HR. Added experience in HR compliance and quality management, OSHA, Facilities and Infrastructure Safety and Security, a plus.

JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities

Leads at a highly executive, seasoned, mature and independently functioning leadership level the legal, HR, HR compliance, corporate compliance, HIPAA compliance and enterprise risk functions, programs and strategy for the enterprise including but not limited to:

HR:
  • Establish and implement HR efforts that effectively communicate and support the company's mission, culture, commitment to ethics and just workplace, and strategic vision.
  • Develop and executive accountability and oversight of HR plans, programs, and strategies to support the achievement of the overall business operations objectives.
  • Function as a strategic business advisor to the executive of each business unit regarding key organizational and human resources management issues.
  • Develop comprehensive strategic recruiting and staffing plans to meet the human capital growth and strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive compensation/incentive and benefits plans that are competitive and cost-effective.
  • Provide overall leadership and guidance to the HR function by overseeing talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, retention, organizational training, leadership development, compensation and payroll.
  • Manage human resources/labor and employment compliance and best practices frameworks, processes, and desired outcomes.
  • Serve as the chief champion of HR compliance, culture and people.
  • Executive accountability for and oversight of staff recruitment and retention.
  • Executive accountability and oversight of Staff/Culture Event Planning.
  • Expertise in budgeting and expense control.
  • Expertise in workplace and workplace premises safety/security management.
  • Expertise devising, implementing, and managing ongoing growth and development of JEDI programs (Just, Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive workplace)
  • Oversight and accountability for compliant, ethical, and strategic management of applicable ERISA programs and employee benefits plans, including but not limited to 401k plans, pension plans, cafeteria plans, FSA plans, medical /dental /vision /life/ disability plans and other plans.
  • Oversight and accountability for compliant, ethical, and strategic management of employee benefits plans.
  • Executive accountability and oversight of applicable facilities and physical security programs across corporate and clinical sites (working collaboratively with regional clinical leaders for clinical sites).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Legal/Compliance/Risk/Regulatory:

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in business litigation, labor & employment litigation, medical litigation and/or personal injury litigation. You will lead the office of the General Counsel and support the President/Chief Legal Officer with all litigation, claims, corporate, insurance portfolio, transactional and governance processes; as well as law and motion and discovery practices. You should have strong writing and advocacy skills, as well as versed in client management and project management processes.The ideal candidate is also comfortable communicating regularly with internal team members, leadership, external counsel, vendors, and affiliates. This role will also lead, support, cultivate and mentor junior legal/compliance/risk staff members. This is a great opportunity to become the General Counsel & SVP HR, without already being a GC.
  • Legal advice: Advising on legal issues, including potential risks and implications of business initiatives, decisions and programs
  • Contract management: Reviewing, writing, negotiating, and managing legal contracts and processes
  • Compliance: Ensuring legal compliance with employee safety, HR, patient safety, healthcare regulatory, corporate compliance, HIPAA compliance, mergers and acquisitions, and other laws and regulations
  • Risk management: Managing operational and strategic legal risks, and overseeing crisis management
  • Litigation and Claims Management: Developing and overseeing a litigation strategy to minimize costs, losses and injury and optimize quality, standardization and ethics.
  • Policies and procedures: Developing and implementing legal/compliance/risk policies and procedures
  • Outside counsel: Managing the work of outside counsel effectively, cost efficiently, and strategically as a leader
  • Legal forms and documents: Reviewing legal forms and documents
  • Insurance contracts: Reviewing insurance contracts
  • Marketing activities: Reviewing marketing activities for legal compliance and protect intellectual property
  • Insurance Portfolio Risk Management: supporting President with oversight of organizational/enterprise insurance risk portfolio and claims/risk management.
  • Ethics Program: supporting President and teams in developing, maintaining and championing an ethical transparent culture and program of training and policies. Supporting a program of just culture.

  • Experience in strategic and leadership human resources management leading organizations of at least 200 staff members; preferred added experience in healthcare environments or hospitality.
