What you bring:
- B.S. degree in Surveying or Registered Professional Surveyor in the State of Florida or the ability to obtain a license within one to two years.
- Combined 10 years of field and office experience.
- Knowledge and ability to perform the following: analyze survey control- GPS and conventional; preparation of ALTA surveys; assume duties of Survey Director in his/her absence; ensure the accurate and complete preparation of, and sign: Tentative Map, Parcel Map, Final Map, Record of Survey, ALTA, Maps, Plats, and Legal Descriptions.
- Knowledge of practical safety procedures and complies with Florida Department of transportation regulations.
- Knowledge of surveying ethics and technical standards of organizations such as MSPS, ALTA, NGS, ACSM, BLMS, and ASCE.
- Ability to prepare surveying electronic drawings using AutoCAD.
- Ability to utilize time management skills to keep projects and tasks in order.
- Ability to evaluate personnel performance, and perform budgeting and cost control techniques.
- Ability to use judgement to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Ability to utilize problem solving skills to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Ability to train personnel in all aspects of field and/or office surveying practices.
Role Summary:
The Survey Project Manager is responsible for the direction of subordinate survey personnel in performing office and field survey functions including, but not limited to: boundary and right-of-way surveys, topographic data acquisition, recovery and establishment of County geodetic control points, construction layouts and measurements of engineering related structures. The Survey Project Manager demonstrates, either from past experience or from experience on the job at RWA, Inc., increasing expertise in utilizing field equipment, electronic products and other software, strong organizational skills, a willingness to learn new duties, and the ability to work well with and coordinate work with other staff members in order to provide optimal service to our clients.
What you'll do:
Project Management
- Responsible for budgeting, project cost control, and meeting project schedules.
- Analyze survey objectives and specifications to prepare survey proposals or to direct others in survey proposal preparation.
- Coordinate with internal and external clients on projects, direct supervision of research, computation field work, and drafting.
- Develop criteria for survey methods and procedures.
- Ensure the preparation of accurate, complete, and value-added work products by: monitoring budgets, schedules, contracts, change orders, weekly reports; identifying and implementing ideas that save client time and money or that effectively solve potential problems/opportunities; reviewing interim work products/submittals and providing needed feedback, accuracy, completeness, and value; mentoring firm field team members; asking the client to identify products/services that provide the greatest value; perform quality control review of firm design plans for completeness for construction staking; and make regular site visits to monitor projects and client's needs.
- Ensure timely document delivery by: monitoring/adjusting schedules; communicating with client and project team members assigning/managing the needed resources; and completing assigned tasks on or ahead of schedule.
- Deliver profitable projects by: preparing and maintaining Project Workplans/CADD Workbooks; monitoring and acting quickly on budget deviations (hours/$) and extra service opportunities; continuous open communication among client, subconsultants and firm team members; appropriate use of available technology; managing subconsultants; and participating in PIC reviews as requested.
- Ensure the accurate and complete preparation of surveys. Stamps and signs surveys done under his or her direct supervision: Final Maps; Records of Survey; Easement Plats; and legal documents.
Surveying
- Research deeds and maps, perform boundary analysis, and determinations.
- Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
- Direct or conduct surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles.
- Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
- Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed.
- Write descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, or other legal documents.
- Search legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.
- Establish fixed points for use in making maps, using geodetic and engineering instruments.
- Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.
- Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
- Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas, using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS).
- Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data to determine positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.
- Plan and conduct ground surveys designed to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements.
- Survey bodies of water to determine navigable channels and to secure data for construction of breakwaters, piers, and other marine structures.
- Direct aerial surveys of specified geographical areas.
- Conduct research in surveying and mapping methods using knowledge of techniques of photogrammetric map compilation and electronic data processing.
Supervision
- Oversee and coordinate daily activities of at least one field crew and/or survey technician.
- Develop survey staff through on-the-job coaching and training along with the regular use of performance review forms and personal development plan discussions. Recommend additional staff as needed. Develop support relationships with field staff
