Job Summary
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for the direct and indirect care of the surgical patient during the pre-operative (Pre-op) and post-operative (PACU I) phase. Provides professional nursing care to patients, incorporating the nursing process, the environment of care and the technical equipment in conjunction with health care team members.
  • Administers nursing care to patient: includes nursing assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the patient's care plan under the guidance of physician orders, unit protocols/policies and nursing judgment.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and delivers care in a manner that preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity and rights.
  • Always considers factors relating to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning/delivering patient care.
  • Skilled in starting IV for surgery/procedure
  • Utilizes electronic health record to process orders and retrieve patient information/test results.
  • Maintains knowledge about documentation requirements and continued update of information needed for accurate documentation using the EHR.
  • Accesses policies, professional publications and electronic resources to provide patient/family or caregiver education, counseling in recognition and solutions of physical, emotional, and environmental health problems in the scope of nursing practice.
  • Provides leadership and direction in the supervision of others in carrying out the nursing process.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with patients, families, physicians, staff and other health care team members. Demonstrating maturity and accountability for job performance.
  • Participates in ongoing educational activities related to clinical knowledge, professional development of peers and colleagues. Including community organizations.
  • Takes assigned call as scheduled with the expected response time of 45 minutes of less.
  • Assists with clerical duties (i.e. scheduling, answering phone, using office equipment, and prepares patient charts).
  • Maintains and manages surgical supplies, equipment and environment. - Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • Required Education for Staff Job Levels Certification BLS for Healthcare Providers and Mandatory Report within 3 months of hire.
  • ACLS within 6 months. PALS-preferred
