Shift: Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) assumes responsibility and accountability for the direct and indirect care of surgical patients during the pre-operative (Pre-op) and post-operative (PACU I) phases. The RN provides professional nursing care to patients, incorporating the nursing process, the environment of care, and technical equipment in collaboration with the healthcare team.
Key responsibilities include:
Nursing Care: Administer nursing assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's care plan based on physician orders, unit protocols, policies, and nursing judgment.
Patient Confidentiality: Maintain patient confidentiality while delivering care that preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
Care Planning: Always consider factors such as safety, effectiveness, and cost when planning and delivering patient care.
Skilled IV Administration: Administer IVs for surgeries and procedures.
Electronic Health Record (EHR): Utilize the EHR to process orders, retrieve patient information, and access test results. Stay updated on documentation requirements for accurate record-keeping.
Patient Education: Access resources to provide education and counseling to patients, families, or caregivers, addressing physical, emotional, and environmental health concerns within the scope of nursing practice.
Leadership: Provide leadership and direction in the supervision of others in the nursing process.
Effective Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, staff, and other healthcare team members, demonstrating maturity and accountability.
Ongoing Education: Participate in continuous educational activities related to clinical knowledge, professional development, and community outreach.
On-Call Duties: Take assigned call as scheduled, with a response time of 45 minutes or less.
Clerical Support: Assist with clerical duties such as scheduling, answering phones, using office equipment, and preparing patient charts.
Surgical Supply Management: Maintain and manage surgical supplies, equipment, and the environment.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Education and Certifications:
BLS for Healthcare Providers (mandatory within 3 months of hire)
ACLS within 6 months of hire
PALS certification preferred
