Job Summary:

This position is located in the Department Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS), Health and Wellness Division. The mission of DYRS is to improve public safety and give court-involved youth the opportunity to become more productive citizens by building on the strengths of youths and their families in the least restrictive, most homelike environment consistent with public safety.

The incumbent serves as a Supervisory Food Service Administrator responsible for the oversight and supervision of food service operations at the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS).This position reports to the Correctional Institution Administrator, who provides guidance in terms of objectives, priorities and deadlines of tasks. The incumbent independently plans, designs and carries out the assignments in accordance with established policies and practices of the office/agency. Completed work is reviewed for successful, accurate and timely accomplishment and compliance with established office/agency policies, procedures, and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Supervisory Food Services Administrator supervises, plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates daily food production and food service programs and provides oversight of supervisory cooks. Participates in discussions on planning, implementing, and coordinating food services with other related programs and institutional functions. Assists with the procurement of food and food-related equipment and supplies. Creates requisitions and reports to monitor trends and budget-related matters. Ensures accompanying records are maintained in compliance with all regulatory entities. Monitors culinary activities to ensure compliance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)/Child Nutrition Program (CNP)-based Standard Operating Procedures.

The Supervisory Food Services Administrator i nterviews and participates in the selection of employees. Oversees the timely production and execution of employee performance evaluations for the division. Implements, monitors, and execute appropriate disciplinary action and counseling when necessitated in accordance with the District's DPM. Collaborates with the agency Dietician and the medical team to plan menus and order foods that are compliant with HACCP/CNP standards. Oversees coordinated visits between residents and the dietician and ensure the outcomes of the visits are appropriately documented and/or followed up on. Establishes performance benchmark for the agency Dietician and manages them accordingly.

Qualifications and Education

Specialized Experience is experience that equips the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

The incumbent works primarily in an office setting however, some tasks will require being in the kitchen of juvenile correctional facilities.

Tour of Duty: M-F during normal work hours between 7:00am-6:00pm Times are flexible pending department needs and supervisory approval

Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union): This position is not a part of a Collective Bargaining Unit.

Duration of Appointment: Management Supervisory Service (MSS): At-will employment applies to the MSS. All positions and appointments in the MSS serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Essential Designation: This position has been designated as an Essential position under the provisions of District Personnel Manual Chapter 12. As such, your services may be required in emergency situations to perform crucial duties that are vital to the continuity of medical facilities, public safety, emergency services, and/or other crucial operations. These duties may be performed when the government is closed or when most employees are dismissed early. Employees designated as essential shall be required to be at work regardless of the emergency situation declared.
