POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Supervisor of Food & Nutrition Services oversees the planning, coordination, and daily operations of the district's food service program. This role ensures compliance with federal and state nutrition guidelines, manages staff, maintains high standards for food quality and safety, and supports student wellness through nutritious meal offerings. The supervisor also collaborates with school administrators and vendors to deliver efficient, cost-effective food service across all HVS schools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition or Food Service Management, Culinary Arts, Food & Nutrition Sciences, or Business preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years operations experience in school food service program management preferred.
  • Serv-Safe certified, or the ability to be certified in 90 days.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current knowledge of all Federal and State child nutrition program regulations pertaining to all USDA food programs provided within the Huron Valley School District.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage a comprehensive food service operation with a $3M annual budget.
  • The ability to successfully communicate with and relate to students, parents, and school officials, as well as to cooperate with state and county officials.
  • Experience with State reporting programs (ie. GEMS/MARS, NexSys, MIND, SMART)
  • Child Nutrition Director (CND) Certification and School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) Credential preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Organize and supervise an efficient and quality focused food preparation and meal service system for all school buildings for the purpose of promoting good nutrition, providing a variety of healthy foods to students and increasing breakfast and lunch participation within the district.
  • Operate the food service program in accordance with USDA federal guidelines and regulations as well as in accordance with policies established by the Huron Valley Schools Board of Education.
  • Recommend employee applications for hire, assign work hours and personnel assignments to all district cafeteria workers and staff, and approve & submit cafeteria employee's timesheets for payroll.
  • Provide oversight of and direction to all cafeteria employees, including production kitchen managers, in the daily operation of the food service program.
  • Maintain personnel files and medical examination records for all cafeteria employees.
  • Establish regulations for cafeteria employees and students to provide a safe, healthy, and efficient program.
  • Assist in the process of labor negotiations with cafeteria employees.
  • Coordinate and provide training to all food service staff in accordance with federal guidelines for school meal programs.
  • Conduct in-service meetings to provide training on food safety, food preparation, nutrition, and other related topics to keep staff knowledge current.
  • Provide oversight and management of all purchases for the food service program including food, supplies and equipment.
  • Plan new programs and improvements to existing programs to include electronic information for all stakeholders.
  • Present food service information at school board meetings, parent and student presentations as requested.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance & repair logs, equipment inventory and historical records of all kitchen equipment.
  • Prepare and provide oversight of the food service budget including recommendations for new equipment purchases and lunch pricing.
  • Prepare and submit all required local, state and federal applications and reports, financial records as well as all documentation requirements for the MDE Administrative Review, as well as internal and external audits.
  • Responsible for all receipts and disbursements within the Department's operations.
  • Participate in state and county organizations related to food service management.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Business & Operations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree and related experience.

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS: Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
