Position Summary
The Superintendent - HVAC Mechanical is responsible for overseeing the construction phase of HVAC project. In addition to leading in field project execution, the role also includes responsibilities in reviewing the engineering take-offs, reviewing plans and specifications, ordering material for the job site and adhering to all safety standards. This individual will manage planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and communication with contractors, and internal teams to ensure successful execution of the project.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 10+years of hands-on experience in HVAC mechanical construction, with 3+ years in a supervisory or superintendent capacity working within the industrial HVAC applications.
- Significant experience on industrial job sites, especially water/wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, or other utility-focused projects is highly preferred.
Direct experience managing installation and commissioning of large-scale HVAC systems, including:
Rooftop units (RTUs) and air handling units (AHUs)
Industrial exhaust and supply fans
Louvers, Dampers, Registers and Sheet Metal Experience
Unit Heaters, MAUs, Industrial Fans etc.
FRP Ductwork preferred
Technical Skills & Expertise
- Expertise in sheet metal fabrication and installation, including layout and supervision of ductwork routing, transitions, and penetrations in concrete/steel structures.
- Knowledge of mechanical controls integration, HVAC balancing requirements, and startup protocols.
- Strong ability to read and interpret HVAC drawings, MEP coordination models, submittals, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of construction software and field tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, and project scheduling applications.
Safety & Compliance
- Deep commitment to safety culture with proven ability to enforce OSHA standards and site-specific safety plans.
- Experienced in job hazard analysis (JHA), confined space operations, with focus on ensuring that team is adhering to all the safety protocols
- Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols for high-risk HVAC installations involving cranes, rigging, and elevated work.
Leadership & Coordination
- Capable of leading large field crews and coordinating with multiple subcontractors across trades.
- Skilled in managing logistics for heavy equipment deliveries, rigging, crane picks, and installation sequencing.
- Maintains detailed daily reports, work logs, inspection records, and punch lists.
- Works closely with the project management team to align field activities with schedule, cost, and quality goals.
- Excellent computer skills and ability to communicate with all levels of management
- Lead by example and "getting the hand dirty" when required to show the team how it's done attitude
Certifications (Preferred/Required)
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification (required)
- Rigging, Scissor Lift Certificate, and other certificates as necessary
- Sheet Metal or Mechanical Journeyman Certification (preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Physically capable of standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, and climbing ladders.
- Able to work in outdoor industrial environments with noise, dust, and weather exposure.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to pass background check since work is in state and federal facilities
- Availability for extended hours, weekends, or shift work as required by project schedules.
