Job Description

The Summer Program Assistant will play a key role in designing and launching a regional volunteer program that enhances the capacity of the IRC in Northern California. This position is ideal for someone interested in program development, volunteer management, and nonprofit operations. The role will conduct research, create resources, and establish processes that will facilitate meaningful volunteer engagement across multiple IRC offices in Northern California.

Primary Responsibilities

•Research and benchmark best practices in volunteer programs at other IRC offices and other organizations to inform IRC NorCal's approach.

•Assist in designing a volunteer program framework, including application processes, onboarding procedures, engagement strategies, and offboarding.

•Develop volunteer recruitment materials, including position descriptions, outreach materials, and informational packets.

•Support the creation of a volunteer handbook outlining expectations, policies, and procedures, and a Standard Operating Procedure to support utilizing interns to run the program.

•Build and maintain a database of potential volunteer groups and partnerships, including corporate, faith-based, and university organizations.

•Assist in setting up tracking and evaluation systems to measure volunteer impact.

•Provide recommendations for sustainable volunteer engagement and retention strategies.

Requirements

•Interest in volunteer management, program development, or nonprofit operations.

•Passion for supporting refugees, immigrants, and other displaced communities.

•Strong organizational and research skills, with the ability to synthesize information into actionable recommendations.

•Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

•Strong written and verbal communication skills.

•Comfort using Windows computer systems, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

•Familiarity with online tools such as Canva is a plus.

•Preferred but not required: Experience volunteering or working with refugee or immigrant communities

Working Environment

•Fully remote, must use their own laptop/equipment.

•Occasional travel to office required.

•Must have a workspace they can effectively complete their service from during regularly scheduled work hours (any time zone in the U.S.).

•All positions are contingent upon clearing a background check vetting process at no cost to the applicant.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
