Utah Community Action is seeking to hire
a Summer Kitchen Steward. We were recently awarded Best of State 2022 for Best Public Preschool and Best Charitable Service Organization. Our Kitchen Steward earns a competitive wage of
$17.49/hour. This full-time position will be with our nonprofit from June to August.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A KITCHEN STEWARD The
Kitchen Steward is responsible for operating, sanitizing, and maintaining central kitchen equipment. Also responsible for washing dishes, flatware, cutlery, kitchen vessels, sweeping, and mopping floors. Maintains kitchen, warehouse, and dishwashing area in an inspection-ready condition following local health department and Head Start guidelines. Ensures disposal of all waste and recycling and maintains all chemical levels. Report any maintenance or hazard issues to the Kitchen Manager. Assists in food prep as directed by the Kitchen Manager.
COMPETENCIES FOR A KITCHEN STEWARD - Ability to follow company guidelines for food prep & sanitation.
- Ability to maintain a clean work area and abide by local health department requirements.
- Ability to follow instructions, work at a fast pace, and under pressure.
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out the trash, etc.
- Ensure all food and other items are properly stored.
- Ability to load and unload vehicles and inventory.
- Possess a positive attitude.
- Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES: - Current food handler's permit, or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of hire, required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - 2-3 years of experience working in a kitchen.
- High school diploma/GED.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS As a member of the central kitchen, the Kitchen Steward will participate in activities that will require standing, moving items and supplies, cleaning, loading, and unloading trucks. Also, the ability to lift 50 lbs. multiple times per day and the ability to recall and retain information.
