Program Dates: The 2024 internship program will begin on May 19th, 2025, and end on August 8th, 2025. Internship Hours: Up to 27 hours/week (maximum), Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; may vary by department. Pay Range: $14 per hour up to $20 per hour (graduate/ master's student), based on the number of credit hours earned. Accessing healthcare is complicated and, for many people very difficult to obtain. The goal of this project is to understand the difficulties in accessing healthcare in Manatee County, especially as it relates to those who are homeless and uninsured, and to assess gaps in knowledge and services. The intern will attempt to gain access to health care as someone with and without insurance and compile a report regarding their experience. The intern is also expected to create evaluation tools to assess gaps in community healthcare knowledge. Department Responsibilities: Simulate the experience of accessing healthcare Research barriers towards healthcare in the County, focusing on those who are homeless and uninsured Creation of evaluation tools to assess gaps in community knowledge and services regarding indigent healthcare Use evaluation tool and analyze results; modify tool as appropriate Write report regarding experience and evaluation Internship Program Responsibilities: A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program.
