Substitute Classroom Teacher Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, a substitute teacher, or sub, teaches and supervises student in the event their regular teacher is unable to lead class. Their duties include managing classroom behavior, quickly interpreting lesson plans and creating reports to inform the students' permanent teacher of their success. Substitute Teachers are called to work on an as-needed basis; there are no set hours or guarantee of hours.
Essential Functions - Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
- Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
- Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student and maintain classroom expectations.
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria.
- Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
- For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans.
Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment Uses standard classroom equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

- Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work and adapt to plans for specific classrooms.
- Be flexible and have strong critical-thinking skills.

Qualifications Profile - Colorado Department of Education License for Substitute Teacher
Education - Bachelors from an accredited college or university is preferred, but not required.
Experience Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is preferred.
