Job Summary A Substitute Child Nutrition Services Assistant I will work on-call when staff CNS Assistant I workers are unavailable for their shift. Under the direction of the CNS Assistant III, a substitute CNS Assistant I must be able to prepare food, do routine tasks, serve food, clean food service equipment and food service areas, and do other related tasks as required.
They may perform any combination of the following:
• Help prepare, serve, sell meals and snacks, and stock inventory
• Clean the following: pots and pans, work tables, serving lines, salad bar, surrounding
area, sweep/mop the floor, and take out the trash
• Sell and inventory all items that are sold
• Stand for long periods of time
• Carry out simple oral and written instructions
• Maintain a cooperative working relationship with students, staff, and co-workers
• May be required to perform general clerical duties - run the register and make change

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: - Have background in serving and preparing food
- Demonstrates dependability and reliability regarding work ethics
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Offer of employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of pre-placement medical examination, including drug testing, and fingerprint clearance
- Have good personal hygiene and maintain a clean appearance
- Free of communicable diseases
- Qualify and secure a food handler's health certificate
- May be required to maintain a current California driver's license
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Must be able to read and understand the following:
- Standard recipes and recipe directions
- Weight measurement of food and ingredients
- Food safety
- Serving temperatures of all foods
- Proper procedure for the handling of leftovers
- Proper procedure for cleaning and operating the following: meat slicer, mixing machine, steam kettle ovens, and vegetable cutter
