Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Willing and able to participate in in-service training
  2. Demonstrated ability in working with students in formal and informal situations and show evidence of successful work experience
  3. Eligible to obtain a State Paraprofessional Aide License


General Duties: To assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. The aide will accomplish this goal under the direction of the classroom teacher and the supervision of the building principal.

Specific Performance Duties:
  1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
  2. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities
  3. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and signed by the teacher
  4. Corrects papers and supervises testing and makeup work as assigned by the teacher
  5. Assists with such large group activities as reading aloud and story telling
  6. Serves as the chief source of information and helps any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
  7. Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student
  8. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers
  9. Participates in inservice training programs as assigned
  10. Keeps bulletin board and other classroom or school learning displays up to date
  11. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips
  12. Performs other job related duties as assigned by the teacher, principal or designee
  13. Works with individual or small groups of students on specific skills and/or assignments
  14. Assists in classroom by answering individual student's questions while he/she is working on assignments
  15. Monitors/assists students during lunch, free-time activities or work placements
  16. Assists students with personal health needs such as feeding, walking, etc.
  17. Accompanies student to inclusion classes, as needed
  18. Keyboards study materials, classroom materials, examinations, and correspondence
  19. Assists in classroom documentation

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of support services personnel.
