A job with Student Life Marketing provides students the opportunity to work in an agency-like atmosphere where creative problem-solving and collaboration with colleagues lead to the development of effective strategies to build awareness, engagement, and action from target audiences. All Student Life Marketing staff will contribute to the creation, implementation, and assessment of various marketing and communications initiatives to promote the Office of Student Life and its 30 plus departments.
Job Summary The Part-Time Student Social Media Coordinator plays a key role in developing and managing content that promotes the services, events, and initiatives of the Office of Student Life and its 30 plus departments, including the Indiana Memorial Union, Student Health Center, Residence Life, and Rec Sports.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Develop innovative and creative social media content in line with the Office of Student Life's branding efforts (i.e., original text, photos, videos, and news).
- Strategize, create, and post content on social media accounts to engage with the IU community regarding services, promotions, events, and other offerings.
- Create vertical videos/Reels to promote the Office of Student Life and its departments.
- Oversee and maintain social media accounts on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other relevant platforms.
- Maintain and consult the Communications Calendar for social media content, working with partners and planning promotions.
- Produce monthly and quarterly social media analytics reports to assess content performance and inform future strategies.
- Collaborate with the marketing team, campus partners, and clients to implement engaging social media strategies.
- Write and edit copy for summer and fall campaigns, including ad copy and print materials.
- Collect data and metrics to create monthly and quarterly reports to help determine future social media strategies
- Photograph events and locations to enhance content and support marketing initiatives.
Qualifications EDUCATION
Required - Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
Preferred - Pursuit of a degree in Marketing, Communications, Media Advertising, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required - Extensive experience with social media platforms and strategies for audience engagement.
- Experience filming and editing vertical videos/Reels, including framing, sound, text integration, and editing techniques.
- Experience in photography, with knowledge of basic photography principles.
- Portfolio of work showcasing a range of creative projects.
Preferred - Experience managing social media accounts (beyond personal accounts).
- Experience creating interactive graphics using Adobe After Effects.
- Experience in shooting and editing still photography.
SKILLS
Required - Strong understanding of social media platforms and how to strategically engage audiences.
- Proficiency in video editing software such as CapCut, Premiere Pro, Canva, Adobe Express, and Adobe Photoshop.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Professionalism, dependability, and respect for others.
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Creative mindset with a strong sense of curiosity.
- Self-motivated with a passion for learning and continuous improvement.
- Open to constructive feedback to enhance skills.
- Willingness to stay up to date on current trends, techniques, and technologies in video production.
Preferred - Understanding of effective marketing tactics and audience engagement strategies.
- Comfortable with talking to others and presenting ideas confidently.
Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This position requires flexibility for evening and weekend events while maintaining some office hours.
