  • Train and supervise student assistants in business and financial operations.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures related to student media operations.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to support the success of student media organizations.

Position Information
  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary

The College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA) is one of the eight San Diego State University instructional units. The College is comprised of ten diverse departments and schools: the departments of Aerospace Studies, Military Science, and Naval Science; the schools of Art, Design and Art History, Communication, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Journalism and Media Studies, Music and Dance, Public Affairs, and Theatre, Television and Film as well as ten research centers. The College is staffed by 49 administrative, clerical, and technical positions in addition to approximately 260 tenured/tenure-track faculty and lecturers serving over 5,000 majors.

At the School of Journalism & Media Studies, we are training the next generation of innovative and ethical storytellers to be leaders in their fields. In truth, we make a lot more than storytellers. The School of Journalism and Media Studies offers nationally accredited programs that prepare undergraduate students for careers in a wide range of media-related jobs. Our graduate students enhance their careers in mass communication and in learning design and technology, with graduates going on to pursue doctorates or furthering their professional careers in the media.

The Daily Aztec is San Diego State University's independent student newspaper, serving a student population of more than 35,000 and a faculty and staff population of more than 4,000. The Daily Aztec strives to be a resource for all members of the SDSU community, providing the news, entertainment, information, and advice they need to make their experience as Aztecs the best it can be. The Daily Aztec publishes daily online and is a monthly print publication. It has five regular sections: news, opinion and editorial, mundo azteca, arts and culture, and sports.

KCR College Radio: The Sound of State is an internet-based radio station run by students at San Diego State University. It provides music, sports, and talk programs to the SDSU community. KCR can be listened to directly via the RadioFX and TuneIn apps.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

  • Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
  • Expertise in handling emergency situations with composure and exhibit sound professional judgement.
  • Manage tasks, time and allocate resources effectively.
  • Must understand editorial integrity and cannot influence editorial content.
  • Capable of maintaining positive working relationships with staff, University, customers and vendors.
  • Advertising/sales/marketing experience preferred.
  • Experience providing lead work direction preferred.
  • Budgeting experience is preferred.
  • Compensation and Benefits

    Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,000 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,653 per month.
