Position OverviewAssist in the preparation of lithographic stones by leveling surfaces using manual levigators and carborundum grits. This process ensures stones are properly conditioned and ready for lamination and continued use in the printmaking studio.

Job Description90% - Involves preparing lithographic stones by operating a manual levigator to level their surfaces using carborundum grits. This is physically demanding work that requires the ability to grain stones for extended periods. The role also entails lifting up to 50 lbs with the aid of hydraulic equipment to safely handle heavy stones.

10% - Involves taking accurate measurements throughout the process to ensure each stone is leveled evenly and meets studio standards for flatness and usability. This includes proficiency in using a straightedge, paper, and caliper set to assess and confirm true level.

Required Qualifications
  1. Must be a Federal Work Study Study as stated in application materials.
  2. Previous experience with working with lithographby stones, typically gained from printmaking classes as indicated on application materials.
  3. Familiarity with the use of a stone levigator as indicated on application materials.
Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
