Job Description
The primary role of the Social Media Intern position is to create unique and engaging social media content for clients of Student Life Marketing such as the Vice Provost for Student Life. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in a marketing and communications environment. The Social Media Intern position should work 10-20 hours per week during the current semester. Those hours may be worked in any combination, at the discretion of the direct supervisor. The Social Media Intern must be reliable, organized, responsible, and flexible. They must also be ambitious, detail-oriented, creative and driven.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. Familiarity with tools like Meta Business Suite or Hootsuite is preferred but not required. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign is beneficial; however, candidates eager to develop these skills are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate should also be comfortable appearing on camera for Reels or providing voiceovers. Furthermore, this role may involve engaging with peers, faculty, and staff to create meaningful content that resonates with Purdue students. An understanding of, or experience using a digital camera for photography and basic videography is also a plus.
Candidates with experience in content writing, social media management, visual content creation, or an interest in digital communications and digital marketing are strongly encouraged to apply.

• High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one semester of college coursework completed
• Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
• Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail and quick turnaround projects

• Be timely and organized
• Working knowledge of social media including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube.
Position Responsibilities
• Work with the social media specialist to develop and implement a social media strategy.
• Schedule and post content in Hootsuite or Meta Business Suite.
• Attend events and/or visit locations on campus to gather content.
• Work with photography interns to post photos.
• Propose content and generate new ideas for the department.
• Create engaging reels and YouTube Shorts.
