Office of the City Clerk

Pay Rate: $16.20/Hour

The Student Intern - City Clerk Program offers valuable work experience in the public sector/city government within various divisions in the Office of the City Clerk. Student Interns must work thirty-five (35) hours per week; work week may include Saturdays. Work hours are flexible to meet the needs of students and city departments.
Internships are limited to one academic year. Students are limited to working one internship (lasting no more than one academic year) per City Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Perform various administrative functions to support program activities.
Compile, tabulate, and analyze statistical data and research and collect information for inclusion in studies, reports, and special projects.
Use various software packages to prepare documents, create spreadsheets, and maintain databases, websites, and social media outlets.
Provide general information for programs and services, review and process applications, and explain program requirements to the applicants and the general public.
Maintain records, organize and create files, and archive records.
Perform various office and general clerical functions.
Participate in the organization, set-up, and administration of special events and program activities as needed (i.e CityKey events and Mobile City Hall events).
Perform occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
Other office projects and job-related duties as required

Location: Various City Clerk locations
Days: Monday - Friday, may include Saturdays
Hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm, 8:30am - 4:30pm, 9:00am - 5:00pm; based on need
Start dates: Various (5/16, 6/1, 6/16, 7/1, 7/16)

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a student in good academic standing currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or law school OR a student in good academic standing currently enrolled in an accredited business or data processing/ information technology school. Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 grading scale or a 3.5 on a 5.0 grading scale.
Must be enrolled in school with a minimum of 6 credit hours (or quarter hour equivalency) throughout the duration of internship, with the exception of academic breaks, i.e. summer.
NOTE: Some divisions within the City Clerk's Office may require bilingual skills. Applicants who are able to speak Polish, Spanish, or Mandarin are encouraged to apply.
NOTE: Must be willing and able to work in all neighborhoods throughout the City.
NOTE: At the time of application, you must attach a Resume, Current transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable if the cumulative grade point average is reflected) and a Current Letter of Enrollment Verification from the School's Registrar/Dean confirming current enrollment (or National Student Clearinghouse Proof of Enrollment Certificate) at the time of hire. You must be enrolled in school (with the exception of academic breaks) throughout your internship if you are selected. Selected students must also maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale or a 4.0 on a 5.0 grading scale.
NOTE: Failure to attach a Resume, Proof of Enrollment and Transcripts will result in an incomplete application and you will not be considered for the position.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position does not require a test or interview. Applicants who successfully apply for the position, meet the minimum qualifications, and possess the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be hired in a lottery/random order.
