Position Announcement

The Environmental Health and Safety office is looking for a student who will assist in implementing and maintaining the campus Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and chemical inventory database. This employee will be required to work independently and in collaboration with lab managers and safety committee members across all areas of campus. The employee will enter chemical names into the database and assign locations to chemicals already in the database. Additionally, this employee will visit departments/rooms across campus to inventory current chemicals and ensure they are accounted for in the database.
Summary of Responsibilities

• Other duties may also include assisting in safety audits and inspections, collecting environmental waste, providing training for campus employees, and participating in emergency management exercises. Additionally, this employee may be asked to use GIS tracking information to identify and mark the locations of various safety devices across campus. This position will require walking around campus and some travel to other buildings not part of the main campus.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

• Must be a current UVU Student
• Must have the ability to navigate across campus.
• Knowledge of computer skills, typing, use of email, and data entry.
• The ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Environmental management
• Emergency Services
• Emergency Management
• Public Health
• Chemistry
• Biology or Other science-related major
• Training in GIS mapping.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Basic knowledge of chemistry and chemical structures
• Understanding of safety concepts
• Be a self-starter with the ability to work unsupervised.
