Student Hourly or Work Study

Position OverviewThe student photo assistant for KU Marketing facilitates editing portraits, cleaning up metadata, management of photo collections, assist on photoshoots, and occasionally shoot KU Marketing collateral.

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels . However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).Job Description60% - editing portraits/assisting on portrait day
20% - metadata entry and cleanup of photo archive
10% - photographing various jobs, events on campus
10% - assisting the two staff photographers on photoshootsRequired Qualifications

1. Good interpersonal communication skills/customer service
2. Flexible with scheduling and reliable with appointments as evidenced through work history and requested references
3. Current portfolio samples
4. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

1. Previous working experience and knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Mac OS, and Microsoft Office Suite
2. Previous experience shooting for a news publication or as a freelance photographer or as an assistant to a professional photographer
3. Knowledge of photo metadata practices/procedures
4. Previous experience working with customers or general public
