Position OverviewThe primary purpose of the School of Social Welfare Student Ambassadors is to recruit students to the School of Social Welfare at KU.
Student Ambassadors serve as representatives of the School of Social Welfare for prospective students through activities such as building tours, virtual info sessions, panels, tabling events, and various outreach efforts aimed at cultivating and fostering an interest in the University of Kansas.
Job Description90% - Office Hours, Tours, Recruitment Events, Student Outreach
- Hold 2 scheduled office hours every week. During office hours, ambassadors will: give tours of Green Hall to visit prospective students/guests and assist with other tasks assigned by the School of Social Welfare's recruitment staff.
- Assist with recruitment events.
- Participate in virtual info sessions for prospective students.
- Write notes and emails and make phone calls to prospective Social Welfare students.
- Write blog posts for the School of Social Welfare website about the BSW student experience.
- Assist with recruitment and promotional material updates.
- Attend ambassador meetings and training events each semester.
10% - Event Support
- Assist with KU School of Social Welfare functions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- KU undergraduate student enrolled, and in good academic standing, in a School of Social Welfare degree program: Bachelor of Social Work (BSW).
- Must have completed SW 220: Intro to Social Work by the end of the Spring 2025 semester.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of the School of Social Welfare and ability to learn and understand academic requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated knowledge of University of Kansas offices and academic programs.
- Ability to establish rapport with peers, students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Experience writing blog posts or creating social media content on behalf of an organization.
- Ability to work in a team and to be flexible.
Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are
not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.Additional Candidate InstructionsA complete application includes:
