Nature & Purpose of Position:

  • Meets weekly with assigned small group(s).
  • Contacts mentees who are on academic alert about their academic progress and provides mentees with services and resources for academic excellence.
  • Assists with marketing and recruiting new and future students into the SH ELITE program.
  • Performs other duties necessary by the Director and/or Associate Director of Access & Retention Programs and Student Assistants.

Other Requirements for the Position:

  • An SH Peer Mentor must understand and believe in the goals of the University and the SH ELITE program.
  • An SH ELITE Peer Mentor must have a 2.5 overall cumulative grade point average at the time of application, at the end of the fall semester, and spring semester. Your permanent record will verify this. No one may hold an SH ELITE Peer Mentor position while on academic probation.
  • An SH ELITE Peer Mentor must not be on disciplinary probation. This will be verified by your SHSU record.
