The GFIworks across three main pillars: Policy, Innovation and Humanity. The GFI is positioned to produce cutting-edge research to create and improve domestic and global food policies, incubate and engineer innovative new technologies with an entrepreneurial spirit, and lead critical conversations about the impact of food on humans and our planet.
Position Specific SummaryThe GFI is hiring a student intern to work with GFI leadership and our Office of Communications lead to promote GFI activities, faculty and brand to the GW community and broader public. This will include:
- developing engaging and informative content for our social media accounts on X, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook
- promoting GFI events on the GW campus to faculty, staff and students through a variety of high impact channels, including newsletters via Emma infomail platform, an active website, and in-person engagement
- writing longer-form materials such as faculty profiles, student brochures and summaries of research projects
- supporting our efforts to build a strong GFI community through innovative and engaging communications, activities, and events with our affiliate faculty and students
- staffing GFI events to provide support and capture photo and video content
- Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific GFIneeds.
This position will begin with the expectation of an average of 30 hr/week for Summer 2025, and transition to 20 hr/wk for the 2025-26 academic year. Candidates able to stay on for the 2025-26 academic year will be prioritized. GFI is a small start-up fun-loving team that seeks to provide a meaningful opportunity to our student employees. You will be included in our staff meetings, be a part of brainstorming and designing our communications efforts and we will value your perspective and experience.
Standard Position DescriptionThe student will manage and/or design marketing and communication strategies and content for departments and/or special events. Tasks may include: Planning, creating, managing and executing marketing plans and campaigns, website resources, digital content and design, and/or managing of social media accounts. While completing work with a high degree of discretion, the student will work within organization marketing standards and guidelines. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

• Demonstrated time management, organizational, and communication skills
