STUDENT ASSISTANT EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the Technical Coordinator, the Student Audio Visual Technician is responsible for managing day-to-day set ups, use and tear down of all audio, video and other entertainment related technology and equipment.

JOB DUTIES:

• Set up and tear down of all AV related equipment such as audio and projection systems.

• Support events with sound and video related needs using available equipment such as speakers, amps, mics, mixers, smart room controls, projectors, projection screens and all associated cabling.

• Keeping AV storage areas neat and organized.

• Minor repair of cable as needed as well as common preventative maintenance on speakers and other audio and projection equipment.

• Work on events to operate and monitor AV equipment.

• Operate equipment and interface with clients' needs providing superior customer service.

• Troubleshoot on the spot and solve production problems as they arise.

• Execute a variety of facility-related projects as assigned.

• Support all aspects of field team as needed.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student

EXPERIENCE

Previous related experience and/or specialized education preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of basic audio and video signal flow

• Knowledge of basic audio console operation

• Ability to efficiently troubleshoot

• Ability to work with clients to help attain technical goals

• Be able to identify aesthetic details and fix them

• Be able to take initiative on setups and guide clients if needed, make suggestions

• Possible pre-production tasks such as working with performers to plan equipment needs

• Able to pay attention to productions and take direction

• Ability to adhere to equipment storage standards, i.e. cable storage and coiling

• Be adaptable and flexible to last minute or unplanned changes

• Proven leadership and organizational skills

• Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel

• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with limited supervision

• Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong initiative

• Ability to perform a wide variety of moderately-complex to complex tasks requiring judgment, analysis and decision-making

• Ability to develop and implement policy and procedure

• Ability to effectively coordinate multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines

• Must be able to remain calm under pressure, think quickly and respond effectively

• Ability to identify problems and/or concerns relative to position of employment, and recommend viable solutions

• Must possess an ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays, finals weeks, and during academic interim and break periods as needed

• Ability to work in a culturally diverse, ethnically pluralistic environment

SUPERVISION:

Supervision is provided by the Technical Coordinator.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work will be performed in many different environments such as indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule Monday-Friday, must possess an ability and willingness to work some weekends, academic interim, and break periods as needed; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.
