Description The California Department of Transportation is seeking a Student Assistant to assist with development of a work flow process and procedure for the implementation of an equipment inventory system, development of related equipment management processes that will be followed by multiple branches throughout the North Region, in a learning capacity, under close supervision by a Staff Services Manager I. The Student will also assist in reviewing, validating, inputting and correcting inventory data into the equipment inventory system, under the guidance of the District Property Controller.
RequirementsConditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Work Schedule Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, summer).

inimum Qualifications- Must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
- Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, formatting, sorting/filtering data).
- Ability to learn and apply new software tools and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and analysis.
Preferred Qualifications- Basic understanding of inventory and data management principles.

Duties and Responsibilities- In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist in defining the work process needed to complete a North Region effort to develop a comprehensive equipment inventory for multiple Divisions, Property Controller's and IT staff in Districts 1, 2 and 3. Will assist in developing processes to maintain current equipment inventory information in compliance with the State Administrative Manual (SAM). Assist in developing new or updated division policies related to equipment inventory processes, roles and responsibilities.
- In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist in preparing existing equipment inventory data into a format to upload into new inventory system.
- In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist with the preparation of staffing information to convert into a new staffing database that will provide management reports on staffing assignments, training, rotations and other required information for management performance reports.
- In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist with tracking work flow progress and developing management progress reports on the implementation of the equipment inventory process and database.
Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation.
