Location: Chicago, IL - Peoria, IL - Crown Point, IN, or Indianapolis, IN

Salary: $100,000 - $145,000 (Compensation commensurate with education, certifications, and relevant industry experience)


Job Description:

The Stormwater Project Engineer will lead hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for floodplain management, bridge and culvert crossings, and flood mitigation projects. Responsibilities include designing stormwater systems for municipal and roadway projects, including conveyance, storage, and stormwater quality best practices. The role will involve soil erosion and sediment control design, managing project plans, and overseeing engineers and technicians while collaborating closely with other disciplines. Additional tasks include developing calculations/models, preparing reports and plans, estimating costs, and ensuring compliance with regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for floodplain and floodway management, including bridges and culverts.
  • Identify flood problem areas, propose solutions, and design stormwater management alternatives.
  • Design and analyze stormwater systems for municipal and roadway projects, ensuring compliance with best practices.
  • Design soil erosion and sediment control measures.
  • Serve as the technical lead on projects, managing engineers and technicians to achieve project completion.
  • Review engineering work, prepare reports, plans, cost estimates, and construction details.
  • Maintain strong client and vendor relationships.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers.

Position Qualifications:

  • 8-12 years of engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school.
  • Illinois and/or Indiana Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is a plus.
  • Strong technical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microstation and AutoCAD (preferred).
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM).
  • Experience in municipal and/or highway drainage design.
  • Valid driver's license required.
