The School of Chemical Sciences is searching for a Storekeeper II to operate under direct supervision from the Storeroom Coordinator, this position performs duties of various complexities that are vital to the daily operation of the School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) Storeroom. Duties & Responsibilities

Ordering
  • Prepares and reviews reorder reports, utilizing the department ordering database and campus purchasing systems.
  • Orders inventory in need of replenishment based upon SCS operating procedures, adjusting quantities, prices, locations, and item descriptions as needed.
  • Communicates estimated supply orders to the Storeroom Coordinator when inventories are near re-order levels.
Receiving
  • Receives merchandise from multiple vendors.
  • Resolves problems with issue and return cards (i.e., wrong account numbers, no quantities listed, etc.).
  • Ensures all types of packing slips exactly match the items on the SCS purchase request.
  • Labels and stores acquired merchandise.
  • Divides bulk items and solvents to smaller quantities for re-packing and distribution.
  • Resolves shipping issues (e.g., shortages, damaged goods, incorrect items, etc.).
Inventory Records
  • Adheres to proper stock rotation methods to avoid any dollar lose due to outdated materials.
  • Verifies shelf quantity and maintains records such as purchase order numbers, dates received, and dates issued to monitor inventory.
  • Files orders, receipts, and issue cards in the storeroom filing system, following SCS and University guidelines.
  • Ensures solvent cans are stocked, replenishing refillable solvent cans at the RAL Dispensing Station.
  • Assists the Storeroom Coordinator in taking physical inventories.
  • Assists SCS Storeroom customers (e.g., graduate students, faculty, and staff) with inquiries and order requests regarding glassware, general and specialty chemicals, general lab supplies, and gases by maintaining up-to-date knowledge and pertinent information related to these items.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned and appropriate for a Storekeeper II.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to that performed at the Storekeeper I level of this series or in other positions of comparable responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years retail experience, 2 years as Storekeeper I
  • Chemical handling experience and experience working with hazardous research chemicals such as acids/corrosives, dispensing chemicals and smells, high hazard materials.
Successful candidates will have:
  • Knowledge of the principles and processing for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Skill in considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Ability to compute basic math including addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to effectively convey information to others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to extreme temperatures.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 3318 - Storekeeper II position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. This is a bargained position and as such, the salary is driven by the collective bargaining agreement. The wage for this position is $24.53/hour. The employee hired into this position will be expected to work onsite on a full-time basis. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
