JOB SUMMARYThe general responsibilities of the Seasonal Parks Communications and Marketing Specialist is to perform a variety of public communications tasks for the Carver County Parks & Recreation Department. Typical duties would include but are not limited to: in the field data collection (photos, videos etc.); print content design; electronic content design; editing web content; development of newspaper content (press release) and attending outdoor programs and special events. The position will report to and work closely with the Chief Communications Officer. The position will be assigned a varying schedule that will include occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.
Hiring range for this position is: $17-$20 per hour. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Intermediate/advanced design and layout skills for print and electronic materials (ads, newsletters, brochures, program guides, flyers, posters etc.).
- Intermediate skills for editing and layout skills for web content.
- Intermediate/advanced skills for editing and layout skills for content disseminated through various social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube etc.).
- Intermediate writing, editing and proof-reading skills.
- Diverse skills & experience in written, visual and spoken communication techniques.
- Intermediate/advanced skills in software applications of: Adobe InDesign & Photoshop; Microsoft Suites (Power Point, Word, Outlook) and web editing applications.
- General knowledge of marketing principals and graphic design strategies.
- General knowledge in outdoor recreation (programs and special events).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • At least 18 years of age.
• Completion of or current enrollment in an Associates degree in graphic design, marketing, communications or related field.
• 1-year full-time employment or 2 seasonal employment durations.
• A Valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or evidence of mobility.
• Available to work nights, weekends and holidays on a limited basis throughout employment.
SCORED EXAMINATION PROCESSAll applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, and background investigation.
