Fitzmaurice South Dakota Veterans Home. For more information on the Department of Veterans Affairs, please visit The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Administrator for the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home (MJFSVH). MJFSVH is a licensed, 100 bed long term care facility located in the beautiful Black Hills. The Administrator is accountable for providing leadership and management for the entire campus, including resident care and quality of life issues, campus finances and budget, and all operational aspects of both the State Veterans Home and all other campus facilities. This position is responsible for creating an environment and culture that enables the facility to fulfill its mission, conveying the mission to staff, holding staff accountable for performance, and motivating staff to continually improve. The primary duties associated with this position are: oversees the daily operations of the facility, ensuring all departments function efficiently and effectively to provide high quality care to residents; manages budget and fiscal responsibilities; monitors and directs varying health services programs; develops, interprets, and directs policies; provides oversight of various functions such as medical logistics, managed care, human resource management, physical plant management, and emergency/disaster planning; monitors federal and state standards implementing changes to the facility; serve as a liaison with community, state, federal and private agencies. Licenses and Certifications: Successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain state licensure as a nursing facility administrator and must meet applicable federal licensure requirements The Ideal Candidate Will Have: The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who possesses expertise or extensive knowledge of geriatric and/or other long-term care facility management. Experience in leading and developing a facility management team and has a thorough understanding of the financial management of healthcare facilities is preferred. Knowledge of: Medicare and Medicaid procedures long-term care administration practices of effective management and supervision Ability to: lead a diverse team of direct care professionals/maintenance/administrative staff demonstrate tact and diplomacy represent the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home during legislative session as needed learn and understand U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs system and the laws/policies/procedures that guide veteran care learn and understand U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs benefit rules/laws/guidelines resolve management issues quickly and effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both in speech and in writing provide leadership through vision-setting, budgeting, planning, recruiting/retaining staff, and developing procedures for effectively carrying out services deal tactfully and effectively with stakeholders effectively manage time and delegation of work on multiple short and long term tasks/goals This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
