Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Tax, this position is responsible for managing and maintaining the Company's state tax compliance, state tax controversy, and state tax planning functions. The requirements and duties of this position apply to the tax functions of two public companies currently managed by the Liberty Media tax department (Liberty Media (which includes the Formula One and Live Nation tracking stock groups) and Liberty Broadband).
Key Responsibilities
- Review and prepare the quarterly state income tax provision of the Company and its subsidiaries including the ability to identify, research, resolve and document tax issues related to tax positions taken in the provision and to communicate the same to outside auditors and upper management of the Company.
- Coordinate the preparation of the Company's and its subsidiaries' state income tax returns with external accounting firms and perform detailed review of such tax returns and related work product of external accounting firms.
- Work collaboratively with subsidiaries and accounting personnel to gather information (e.g., apportionment data, depreciation, etc.) affecting state income tax returns.
- Manage and maintain state tax calendar, including preparation and submission of state income tax estimates and extensions.
- Supervise and interact with external tax advisors (national and local accounting and law firms)
- Manage state tax notices, including responding to inquiries and coordinating audit responses with respect to information document requests.
- Understand and explain the Company's state tax positions and its impact on the Company's U.S. state tax returns and tax liabilities, including the ability to compute and forecast the Company's annual state tax liability.
- Ability to conduct multistate tax planning and Nexus analysis to optimize tax strategy when applicable.
- Provide financial, risk and operational advice to management on new and proposed state tax legislation, judicial precedent, and state administrative guidance that impacts the Company and any new proposed business ventures.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required, master's degree in taxation or equivalent preferred.
• CPA certification preferred.
• 7 - 10 years of corporate state income tax experience, including tax audit experience, in public accounting or in-house tax department required
Skills
• Thorough knowledge of state tax laws, rules, and regulations
• Considerable experience with the preparation and review of quarterly corporate state income tax provisions, and an understanding of ASC 740 rules
• Familiarity of corporate transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, split-offs, spin-offs, corporate formations, and partnership investments is a plus.
• Ability to research and develop tax policies.
• Ability to read, understand, and accurately evaluate, analyze, interpret, and explain complex tax and business-related data, documents, statutes, regulations, and regulatory filings.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Problem solving skills required.
• Ability to formulate well-reasoned hypotheses regarding tax issues.
• Ability to efficiently conduct accurate, high-quality tax research.
• Ability to work under pressure, both independently and in collaboration with others, and to meet deadlines.
• Strong ethical standards and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to make well-informed decisions and exercise good judgment and discretion in a fast-paced environment and in a variety of situations, including in the absence of express direction.
• Ability to quickly understand and comply with Company policies, procedures, and practices.
• Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Ability to work in an organized fashion, manage time effectively, take initiative, meet deadlines, and multitask.

• Company supports a hybrid work environment. Employees are required to work in the office of the Company's headquarters three days a week.
• Use of laptop computer required.
• Available to travel domestically on occasion.
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $130,000-$145,000 annually, dependent on variables including but not limited to education, experience, and skills. In addition, the Company offers a discretionary annual bonus program based on individual and company performance, an equity award grant, and generous company 401(k) match.
