POSITION SUMMARY: In this role you will be responsible for leading the development of customized robotically controlled tools for the next generation endoluminal robotic system. This role is a blend of hands-on development engineer and program & vendor management. You'll work closely with the robotic hardware, develop relationships with contract manufacturers and partners, and drive development of custom multi degree of freedom tools. You'll drive prototypes into verification ready designs and into product launch. This role requires an effective and proactive leader to drive manufacturing and partnership strategy and to ensure alignment with project goals. The ideal candidate will act with passion and intensity in a medical device start-up that is fast-paced and collaborative and will display the ability to perform to the requirements outlined below. ESSENTIAL CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with design engineers, marketing, and clinical teams to determine and articulate design requirements for a suite of robotic endoluminal tools. Determine the material selection and tool construction that best meets the performance requirements for the system for each of the tools and tool families. Evaluate manufacturing and design partners across the world to understand capabilities and tradeoffs. Working with leadership, develop the strategic development approach for tools development and supply chain. Manage external business and manufacturing partnerships to effectively execute the design and development of robotic endoluminal tools. Determine the best approach to ensure highest quality products that meet medical safety, development and process control, and business needs. Develop and execute design verification and process validation, including cleaning, sterilization, and functional verification as needed. Work well both independently and as part of a fast-moving, collaborative team. Have superb organizational and communication skills.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: B.S. or M.S. in Engineering with 8+ years experience. Extensive experience in the design and development of disposable tools with external and internal partners. Understanding of manual and/or robotic tool construction. Demonstrated experience managing external vendors and partners. Demonstrated experience in design control, risk management, and regulatory compliance across industries such as medical devices, automotive, aerospace. Strong technical background with experience in design of flexible medical devices such as tools, robotic tools, catheters, and endoluminal tools. Knowledge of plastic and metal part manufacturing techniques and dFM/dFA related to flexible tool production. Experience designing for high volume production Familiarity with endoscopic procedures. Significant travel is required for this position.
