Position Summary
The Infection Control Preventionist coordinates a comprehensive infection prevention and control program in accordance with current requirements of regulatory, government, and accrediting/licensing agencies and organizational policies and procedures. Duties include surveillance for health care-associated infections (HAIs), collection, analysis, and interpretation of surveillance data, outbreak investigation, and program evaluation. The Director is also responsible for the day-to-day administration of the infection prevention and control program.

Primary Duties
Develop and maintains an infection surveillance, prevention, and control program based on the organizational risk assessment and other needs in accordance with state, federal, and other reporting requirements.
Collects, manages, and analyze surveillance data using standardized methodology and defined criteria for HAIs.Organizes and maintains surveillance data and recordsReports surveillance data, findings, and analysis to the appropriate committees, patient care units, personnel, and external agenciesMonitors patients for the occurrence of communicable diseases, HAIs, and resistant and epidemiologically important organismsMonitors infectious diseases and epidemiologically significant organisms occurring in the community via laboratory reports and public health reportsIdentifies and evaluates clusters of infections and potential outbreaksInstitutes an outbreak investigation and control measures, as neededRecommends isolation precautions according to organization's policies and proceduresDevelops infection prevention and control policies and procedures in accordance with requirements of regulatory, government, and accrediting/licensing agencies and recommendations of relevant regulations, standards, and evidence-based guidelines.Update policies and procedures, as needed, to maintain compliance with regulations, standards, and evidence-based guidelinesAssists the organization to evaluate and maintain readiness for state and accrediting agency surveysMonitor and evaluates the efficacy of infection prevention and control strategiesCollaborates with the departments of the facility to design and implement strategies to prevent HAIs and transmission of multi-drug resistant organisms and other epidemiologically important organismsInvestigates exposures to communicable disease and initiates appropriate measures to prevent the transmission of disease Maintains confidentiality of patients, personnel, and related informationProvides consultation services related to infection prevention and control to the departmentsEvaluates products, devices, and equipment as relating to infection prevention and controlActively participates in performance improvement activitiesMaintains departmental records to be in compliance with regulatory and accrediting agenciesProvides written and verbal reports to administration and relevant committees, departments, personnel, and external agenciesCommunicates with local and state health departmentsParticipates in orientation programs and required annual education programsDevelops or obtains educational material and programs, as needed, for personnel, patients and visitorsCollaborates with employee health personnel on matters such as exposure management and immunizationWorks with facilities management and other personnel to evaluate infection risks associated with renovation and construction projects and to identify control measuresLeads the Infection Control Committee collaboratively with the designated medical director, participates in Quality Council and the Supply Management Action and Resource Team.Tenet Desert Job ID .
